Browser script execution via unencoded form answers
Published Feb 26, 2023 · Updated Mar 11, 2025
Persisted XSS in TYPO3 Forms Export before 3.1.2 and 4.0.0 through 4.0.1 allows remote attackers to run scripts via saved emails. SaveFormToDatabaseFinisher stores form values without HTML encoding, while FormAnswersJsonElement and InMail render the values directly into HTML. Exploitation requires attacker-controlled form data to be saved and a user to view the affected email or backend entry; code then runs in that viewer's browser context.
