Baseband heap corruption via malformed access-category definitions
Published Mar 13, 2023 · Updated Mar 3, 2025
Heap-based buffer overflow in Samsung Exynos chipsets allows attackers to corrupt baseband memory via a crafted 5G MM message. The NrmmMsgCodec decoder processes operator-defined access category definitions without sufficient parameter validation and writes beyond a heap buffer. Reachability requires a malicious mobile network operator or local device access; published sources do not establish reliable code execution.
