CVE-2023-26055Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Programming-rights code execution via unescaped opening braces

Published Mar 2, 2023 · Updated Mar 5, 2025

Code injection in affected XWiki Commons releases allows remote authenticated users to execute code with programming rights. XWikiUtils#escapeElementText fails to escape opening braces in profile first names and other short-text properties, so display paths interpret injected XWiki macros instead of rendering them as text. An ordinary account able to edit its profile, or an account with edit rights to a qualifying Apps Within Minutes field, can run Groovy or Velocity code with programming rights and alter wiki-wide state.
