Authenticated shell command execution via daemonControl parameters
Published Feb 25, 2023 · Updated Mar 10, 2025
OS command injection in ZoneMinder before 1.36.33 and 1.37.0 through 1.37.32 allows remote authenticated users to execute shell commands. HostController.php's daemonControl() concatenates attacker-controlled command and daemon route parameters into a zmdc.pl command string passed to PHP exec without neutralizing shell metacharacters. Any authenticated account can reach the API, and successful exploitation runs arbitrary commands with the web-service user's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
