CVE-2023-25817Network attack vector

Shared-file deletion via unpreserved permission mask

Published Mar 27, 2023 · Updated Feb 19, 2025

Improper permission preservation in Nextcloud Server 24.0.0 through 24.0.8 allows remote authenticated users to delete shared files. The public-share creation path fails to preserve the requested permission bitmask, so clearing its delete bit does not prevent deletion through the share. Exploitation requires an account and a share owner to create a folder share that grants viewing or downloading but withholds deletion; the recipient can then delete its files.
