CVE-2023-25740Public exploitNetwork attack vector

NTLM credential exposure via unblocked SCF IconFile

Published Jun 2, 2023 · Updated Jan 9, 2025

Credential exposure in Mozilla Firefox before 110 allows remote attackers to leak Windows NTLM credentials through a downloaded SCF file. The Downloads API failed to block the SCF extension, allowing its IconFile parameter to reference an SMB resource that Windows loads automatically. Only Windows is affected, and the user must download and access the crafted file; the resulting outbound request exposes NTLM credential material.
