Denial of service via unvalidated pooling dimensions
Published Mar 24, 2023 · Updated Feb 19, 2025
Denial of service in Google TensorFlow before 2.12.0 allows attackers to crash XLA execution through malformed AvgPoolGrad parameters. The tf2xla pooling kernel accepts nonpositive ksize and stride values and passes them into padding calculations, where division by zero raises a floating-point exception. Exploitation requires an application to JIT-compile attacker-controlled AvgPoolGrad arguments; the resulting failure interrupts that execution process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
