Router reboot via amplified unauthenticated cmd responses
Published Dec 14, 2023 · Updated May 22, 2025
Denial of service in ZTE MC801A and MC801A1 firmware allows remote attackers to reboot the router through local-network web requests. The unauthenticated status handler expands data supplied in the cmd parameter into a much larger response, exhausting the management service when oversized requests arrive. Access to the router's local network is required; a short request burst can reboot the device and briefly interrupt the network.
