CVE-2023-25435Public exploit

Process crash via out-of-bounds heap read

Published Jun 21, 2023 · Updated Dec 6, 2024

Heap buffer overflow in tiffcrop in libtiff 4.5.0 allows context-dependent attackers to crash it via a crafted TIFF image. The extractContigSamplesShifted8bits function reads one byte from a heap address 233 bytes beyond a 98,307-byte image buffer while handling malformed tile data and crop selections. Exploitation requires local tiffcrop execution with specific crop options and user interaction; the demonstrated consequence is a process crash.
