Remote code execution via freed render-layer write
Published Mar 2, 2023 · Updated Mar 7, 2025
Use-after-free in WebCore::RenderLayer in WebKitGTK and WPE WebKit before 2.36.8 allows remote attackers to execute code via a crafted website. During render-tree attachment, RenderLayer::addChild writes a child-link pointer through a RenderLayer object that earlier tree teardown has freed. Exploitation requires a user to load attacker-controlled web content and results in arbitrary code execution or an application crash.
