Arbitrary file creation via crafted modpack paths
Published Jun 26, 2023 · Updated Dec 4, 2024
Path traversal in MultiMC Launcher 0.6.16 and earlier allows attackers to escape an instance directory through crafted .mrpack import paths. The .mrpack installer fails to confine manifest-supplied file paths to the new instance directory, permitting file creation elsewhere. Importing an attacker-controlled modpack is required, after which content can create or overwrite files writable by the launcher process.
