Unauthenticated remote code execution
Published Jun 7, 2023 · Updated Aug 26, 2025
Privilege escalation in Puppet Enterprise 2021.7.0 through 2021.7.3 and 2023.0 through 2023.1 allows remote attackers to execute code. Puppet identifies the orchestration service as the affected locus but has not published the faulty operation or input path that enables the escalation. The published assessment requires network reachability but no account or user action, and successful exploitation permits arbitrary code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=2021.7.0 <2021.7.4

CVSS describes severity. EPSS estimates exploitation probability.
Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
