Root command execution via email-setting filter bypass
Published Mar 13, 2023 · Updated Mar 3, 2025
OS command injection in D-Link DIR-820L firmware 1.05B03 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands as root through email settings. The /sbin/ncc2 sub_5129BC function concatenates four /tools_email.asp request fields into a system command, while hasInjectionString fails to reject line feeds and dollar signs. Network access to the web management interface and a crafted settings POST are required; successful injection yields a root shell and full device control.
