CVE-2023-25152Network attack vector

Host file creation via unresolved symlink targets

Published Feb 8, 2023 · Updated Mar 10, 2025

Improper link resolution in Pterodactyl Wings before 1.7.3 and 1.11.0 through 1.11.2 allows remote authenticated users to create host files. SafePath validated an existing parent of a requested path when recursive symlink evaluation reached a nonexistent target, allowing Writefile to follow the unresolved link outside the server root. Exploitation requires control of an allocated server and can alter resource allocations, enable privileged containers, or install an SSH key for host shell access.
