Admin-level code execution via unbounded OpenVPN address formatting
Published Jul 6, 2023 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Milesight UR32L 32.3.0.5 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code via an HTTP request. The set_openvpn_client function formats unbounded local_virtual_ip and remote_virtual_ip JSON values into the fixed vtysh_command_buffer with sprintf. Administrative privileges are required, and an oversized address can crash vtysh_ubus while successful exploitation grants code execution on the router.
