Authenticated code execution via unbounded OpenVPN option formatting
Published Jul 6, 2023 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Milesight UR32L 32.3.0.5 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via an HTTP request. The set_openvpn_client function formats the expert_options JSON string into vtysh_command_buffer with an unbounded sprintf call. High-privileged access to the /cgi management endpoint is required; an oversized value corrupts the stack and can crash vtysh_ubus or enable arbitrary code execution.
