CVE-2023-24934Public exploit

Detection bypass via forged signature database update

Published Apr 14, 2023 · Updated Jan 23, 2025

Security feature bypass in Microsoft Malware Protection Platform before 4.18.2303.8 allows local users to evade selected malware detections. The public proof of concept edits Defender VDM definition files to remove chosen threat signatures, increments their version, and loads them through MpSigStub as a simulated update. Local access requires neither privileges nor user interaction; the CNA reports confidentiality impact without direct integrity or availability impact.
