CVE-2023-24880Known exploitation

Security-warning bypass via malformed Authenticode data

Published Mar 14, 2023 · Updated Oct 21, 2025

Security-feature bypass in Microsoft Windows SmartScreen allows attackers to suppress warnings for malicious downloaded files. SmartScreen processes a crafted MSI Authenticode certificate context, but a corrupted SPC_INDIRECT_DATA identifier leaves psIndirectData null; the resulting error makes the shell fail open. Exploitation requires a user to open the downloaded file, after which attacker-supplied code runs without the normal Mark-of-the-Web warning.
