CVE-2023-24871Public exploit

Adjacent code execution via BLE section-count overflow

Published Mar 14, 2023 · Updated Jan 1, 2025

Integer overflow in Microsoft Windows Bluetooth services allows physically proximate attackers to execute code via crafted BLE advertisements. BthLeLib_ADValidateBasic stores the advertisement-section count in an unsigned 8-bit value, so 256-plus sections wrap the allocation count and cause heap out-of-bounds writes during copying. Remote reachability requires Bluetooth 5 extended advertising with at least 514 bytes and an active scan, a paired BLE device, or Swift Pair.
