CVE-2023-24817Network attack vector

Device crash via unchecked SRH length underflow

Published May 30, 2023 · Updated Jan 10, 2025

Out-of-bounds access in RIOT before 2023.04 allows remote attackers to crash devices with a crafted 6LoWPAN SRH frame. gnrc_rpl_srh_process subtracts SRH padding and compression lengths from a zero header length, underflowing the address count before unchecked memcpy operations access addr_vec out of bounds. RPL source routing header support must be enabled, and exploitation requires timing the corruption so an interrupt changes the targeted packet-buffer contents; corrupted allocator pointers crash the device.
