Account creation via cross-origin text/plain requests
Published May 2, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Cross-site request forgery in REBUILD 3.2 allows remote attackers to create user accounts through an authenticated user's browser. The /app/entity/record-save endpoint accepts JSON-shaped data submitted as text/plain while permissive cookie handling sends the victim's session cross-origin. Exploitation requires an authenticated user to visit an attacker-controlled page and results in a new account with attacker-chosen credentials.
