CVE-2023-24620Public exploit

Application interruption via recursive YAML anchor expansion

Published Aug 25, 2023 · Updated Oct 2, 2024

Denial of service in Esoteric YamlBeans 1.15 and earlier allows attackers to interrupt applications with crafted YAML input. YamlReader accepts recursively nested anchor aliases without an expansion limit, creating a data graph whose traversal multiplies work. An application must read attacker-controlled YAML and then recursively traverse or stringify the result, consuming CPU and memory until it hangs or raises a Java OutOfMemoryError.
