Remote command execution via unescaped extension options
Published Jan 30, 2023 · Updated Mar 28, 2025
Command injection in PdfBook for MediaWiki through 2.0.5 allows remote attackers to execute operating-system commands via extension options. The extension builds a command for shell_exec by interpolating option values without escapeshellarg; HtmlDocPath and Options were also accepted outside global configuration. Exploitation requires an attacker-controlled option to reach PDF generation, and commands run with the web-server process's privileges.
