CVE-2023-24473Network attack vector

Information disclosure via unterminated Targa header string

Published Mar 30, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in OpenImageIO 2.4.7.1 allows attackers to disclose process memory by supplying a crafted Targa file. TGAInput::read_tga2_header constructs a string view from a fixed header buffer that a corrupted file can leave without a null terminator, causing strlen to read past the buffer. Processing the file through an application using the Targa input plugin is required, and the demonstrated consequence is confidentiality loss from the out-of-bounds read.
