Memory corruption via malformed Mosaic game description
Published Sep 14, 2026 · Updated Sep 14, 2026
Buffer overflow in Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzle Collection before 20230116.5782e29 allows attackers to corrupt memory via a Mosaic save file. The Mosaic game-description loader accepts malformed description data from the file and writes beyond the destination buffer while decoding it. Exploitation requires a user to open the supplied file or description; public records do not establish a consequence beyond process-memory corruption.
