Application crash via malformed Guess save file
Published Sep 14, 2026 · Updated Sep 14, 2026
Buffer overflow in the Guess puzzle in Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzle Collection before 20230116.5782e29 allows attackers to crash the application. The Guess save-file parser writes malformed saved-game data beyond an allocated buffer while reconstructing a puzzle state. A user must manually load the crafted file; the documented consequence is application termination rather than system-wide service loss.
