CVE-2023-24180Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Application crash via wrapped ELF bounds check

Published Mar 14, 2023 · Updated Feb 27, 2025

Integer overflow in Libelfin 0.3 allows context-dependent attackers to crash consuming applications with a crafted ELF file. The mmap_loader.cc load function adds an untrusted file offset to a requested size before comparing the sum with the mapped-file limit, so wraparound bypasses the bounds check and returns an invalid pointer. Processing the malformed file can dereference that pointer and terminate the consuming process; an application must be induced to open the file.
