Remote code execution via unsafe XML object deserialization
Published Jan 31, 2023 · Updated Mar 27, 2025
Deserialization in Dromara Hutool 5.8.11 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through crafted XML. XmlUtil.readObjectFromXml passes attacker-controlled XML to XMLDecoder.readObject, which instantiates an encoded ProcessBuilder and invokes its start method without restricting the requested operation. Exploitation requires a consuming application to pass untrusted XML into this utility; successful payloads run commands with that application's privileges.
