Root access via hard-coded Telnet credentials
Published Feb 3, 2023 · Updated Mar 26, 2025
Hard-coded credentials in TOTOLINK T8 firmware 4.1.5cu allow remote attackers to gain root access through the Telnet service. An unauthenticated POST to /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi sets telnet_enabled to 1, after which the firmware accepts the fixed root password stored in /web_cste/cgi-bin/product.ini. Network reachability to the management endpoint and Telnet service is sufficient; successful login grants a root shell with full device control.
