Authenticated code execution via oversized wizard username
Published Jan 23, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stack overflow in TRENDnet TEW-820AP firmware 1.01.B01 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via a crafted username. The boa handler for /boafrm/formWizardPassword accepts an arbitrarily long username and stores it under MIB key 182 with apmib_set before later reading it into a bounded buffer. Authentication to the management web interface is required; successful exploitation can take over the device operating system or crash the appliance.
