Authenticated code execution via unbounded submit-url copy
Published Jan 23, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stack overflow in TRENDnet TEW-820AP firmware 1.01.B01 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code via an HTTP request. The boa HTTP handler for /boafrm/formSystemCheck passes an arbitrarily long submit-url value to sprintf, which copies it into stack memory without a length bound. Access to web management credentials is required; successful exploitation can take over the device or render it unusable.
