Attachment disclosure via uncleared plaintext cache
Published Jan 23, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Information disclosure in Signal Desktop before 6.2.0 allows local users to recover message attachments from its plaintext cache. The attachments.noindex cache retains unencrypted attachment files and fails to purge a deleted file when the attachment was previously quoted in a reply. Local filesystem access is required; Signal disputes the finding because its threat model does not protect data from adversaries with that access.
