CVE-2023-24057Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Arbitrary file write via unnormalized archive paths

Published Jan 24, 2023 · Updated Apr 1, 2025

Path traversal in HL7 FHIR Core Libraries before 5.6.92 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to write files outside extraction directories. Scanner.java appends unvalidated ZIP entry names to the destination path, while TerminologyCacheManager checks a path string that Utilities.path does not normalize. Exploitation requires control of a crafted ZIP or TGZ archive, including through interception of HTTP-downloaded resources, and permits arbitrary file writes with the library process's permissions.
