Authenticated code execution via SAML XML overflow
Published Feb 16, 2023 · Updated Oct 23, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in FortiWeb SAML server configuration allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code. During SAML server configuration, FortiWeb parses uploaded identity-provider metadata XML without preventing a write beyond a stack buffer. Exploitation requires administrative write access to the SAML configuration area and can compromise the appliance through code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=6.3.6 <=6.3.19
- Affected versionversion=6.4.0 <=6.4.2
- Affected versionversion=7.0.0 <=7.0.1
