CVE-2023-23770Network attack vector

Engineer access via immutable backdoor passwords

Published Aug 29, 2023 · Updated Oct 2, 2024

Hard-coded credentials in Motorola MBTS Site Controller R05.32.58 allow remote attackers to obtain engineer access through Telnet. The MMI authentication check compares entered text with configured passwords and two embedded field and engineer passwords that remain valid after password changes. Network access to the Telnet MMI is sufficient; engineer access exposes diagnostic and configuration functions, while physical serial access enables encryption-key extraction.
