API endpoint redirection via permissive URI parsing
Published Jan 24, 2023 · Updated Mar 10, 2025
Path traversal in Spotipy before 2.22.1 allows remote attackers to redirect a Spotify API request via a crafted URI. The Spotify._get_id method returns a trailing URI or URL value without validating its resource type or restricting it to a base-62 identifier, so embedded .. segments change the requested endpoint. Reachability requires a consuming application to accept attacker-controlled Spotify identifiers and forward them to Spotipy; resulting harm depends on its handling of the unexpected response.
