File disclosure via external entity resolution
Published Jan 15, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
XXE in BlueCat Device Registration Portal 2.2 allows remote attackers to read single-line local files through a crafted XML request. The portal's XML parser resolves an external entity in the POST body, reads its file URI, and sends the resulting content to an attacker-controlled HTTP or FTP server. No authentication or user interaction is required; demonstrated disclosure is limited to single-line files, including files that store credentials.
