CVE-2023-2356Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Arbitrary file read via unchecked model sources

Published Apr 28, 2023 · Updated Jan 30, 2025

Relative path traversal in MLflow before 2.3.1 allows remote attackers to read server-accessible files through a crafted model source. The Model Registry’s _validate_source routine accepts .. segments in the source field sent to the model-versions/create API, so artifact resolution can escape the intended directory. An exposed tracking server with Model Registry access is sufficient; exploitation requires no credentials or user interaction and can disclose files readable by the service account.
