CVE-2023-23554Network attack vector

Privilege escalation via unqualified maintenance function lookup

Published Mar 7, 2023 · Updated Mar 6, 2025

Uncontrolled search path handling in IVM Development Group pg_ivm before 1.5.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute functions as IMMV owners. During IMMV refresh, maintenance code leaves pg_catalog function names unqualified and reparses cached min/max plans after search_path changes, resolving attacker-defined objects. Exploitation requires a database user able to create a competing function and reach IMMV maintenance, granting that function the materialized view owner's privileges.
