CVE-2023-23513Network attack vector

Code execution via unchecked DCERPC packet-type index

Published Feb 27, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Buffer overflow in macOS Big Sur before 11.7.3, Monterey before 12.6.3, and Ventura before 13.2 allows attackers to execute code via a crafted share. The receive_dispatch function uses the unvalidated one-byte DCERPC packet type as an index into a 20-entry global statistics array, causing an out-of-bounds increment. The path is reachable by an authenticated SMB peer or a regular local user through a DCERPC UNIX socket, and successful corruption supports arbitrary code execution.
