History disclosure via unchecked XPC client validation

Published Feb 27, 2023 · Updated Mar 11, 2025

Incorrect authorization in Safari on Apple macOS before 13.2 allows local users to read Safari history through a malicious app. The com.apple.Safari.History XPC service fails to validate connecting clients before servicing history database requests. A user must run the app locally; successful access discloses browsing URLs and searches, with no reported write or service-interruption impact.
