CVE-2023-23454

Local system crash via misread classification result

Published Jan 12, 2023 · Updated Mar 20, 2025

Type confusion in the Linux kernel through 6.1.4 allows local users to crash the system through class-based queuing traffic control. The cbq_classify function treats any nonnegative tcf_classify return as a valid res.class pointer, even when TC_ACT_SHOT leaves the union data invalid. Low-privilege local access sufficient to configure the affected scheduler and send traffic can trigger a slab-out-of-bounds read and system crash.
