Local privilege escalation via relative path traversal
Published Feb 14, 2023 · Updated Aug 19, 2026
Relative path traversal in Microsoft Defender for IoT 22.0.0 through 22.3.5 allows local users to elevate privileges on the sensor. Microsoft identifies the weakness as relative path traversal but has not published the affected path-handling routine or input field. Low-privileged local access is required; successful exploitation grants higher privileges and can compromise sensor data and operation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
