Credential disclosure via optional cleartext HTTP authentication
Published Feb 1, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Cleartext authentication in ConnectWise Automate 2022.11 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to read credentials sent over HTTP. When SSL is disabled, the authentication exchange transmits sensitive credentials without transport encryption instead of requiring HTTPS. Exposure requires the troubleshooting configuration that enables HTTP, and ConnectWise disputes the issue because that option is an intentional design choice.
