Application crash via out-of-bounds EXIF directory access
Published Feb 3, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Heap buffer overflow in Kodi Home Theater Software 19.5 and earlier allows physically proximate attackers to crash Kodi with a malformed image. The CExifParse::ProcessGpsInfo routine trusts a tainted EXIF entry count, computes directory-entry pointers, and reads past the EXIF data boundary. Triggering the crash requires the image to reach accessible storage and be scanned in the Picture application; the demonstrated consequence is Kodi process termination.
