Local system crash via error-pointer dereference
Published Feb 28, 2023 · Updated Mar 20, 2025
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel before 5.16.3 allows local users to crash the system through the Qualcomm DWC3 USB driver. In drivers/usb/dwc3/dwc3-qcom.c, dwc3_qcom_probe() tests the dwc3_qcom_create_urs_usb_platdev() result only for NULL, then accepts an error pointer as a valid platform device. The path is limited to Qualcomm URS hosts booted through ACPI, and successful triggering interrupts availability without reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
