Risky-command safeguard bypass via nested map search
Published Feb 14, 2023 · Updated Feb 28, 2025
Improper input validation in Splunk Web allows remote attackers to bypass risky-command safeguards through the map SPL command. The command executes a nested search containing risky commands without applying the safeguards that normally govern those commands. Exploitation requires Splunk Web and a higher-privileged user to initiate a browser request, and it can expose or modify indexed data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=8.1 <8.1.13
- Affected versionversion=8.2 <8.2.10
- Affected versionversion=9.0 <9.0.4
