Integrity bypass via skipped AES MAC verification
Published Jan 10, 2023 · Updated Apr 9, 2025
Origin validation error in Zip4j 2.11.2 and earlier allows attackers to bypass integrity checks on encrypted ZIP content. AesCipherInputStream.verifyContent returned without comparing the calculated AES MAC when a DEFLATE entry used a data descriptor. Exploitation requires write access to an encrypted archive and later decryption of that entry, after which modified content is accepted as authentic.
