Administrator account takeover via private-field filtering
Published Apr 19, 2023 · Updated Nov 7, 2025
Information disclosure in Strapi 3.2.1 through 4.7.1 allows remote attackers to infer private user fields through API queries. The query-filter path accepts private field names such as password and resetPasswordToken, then exposes value matches through differences in API responses. Public content linked to an administrator enables unauthenticated reset-token disclosure and Super Administrator account takeover; lesser admin access exposes only permitted lower-role API users.
