CVE-2023-22643

Root code execution via shell-interpreted repo settings

Published Feb 7, 2023 · Updated Mar 25, 2025

OS command injection in libzypp-plugin-appdata before 1.0.1+git.20180426 allows local users to execute code as root via repository settings. InstallAppdata passes REPO_ALIAS, REPO_TYPE, and REPO_METADATA_PATH values into shell command strings through os.system instead of a non-shell argument list. Execution requires a user to use crafted repository configuration, after which the root-only appdata plugin processes the values during repository changes or refreshes.
